Job Description
When successfully joining Team HLR as a HCA, your role will be based on fulfilling the following duties:
You will assist registered nurses and fellow HCAs in the delivery of direct care to residents within the ward.
You will also assist the patients and encourage them to participate in activities of daily living in accordance with care plans.
It is also important to help the patients articulate their personal needs and respond to these effectively, bearing in mind communication difficulties or barriers.
The patients will be involved in outings, and therefore the HCA will be required to participate and assist.
The applicant must have excellent communication skills and have a positive approach to the care of people with a neuro/physical-disability.
You will be part of a strong team assisting individuals with physical, cognitive, communication, behavioural and emotional difficulties following brain injury.
You will enable the patients with such brain injury to optimise their skills and abilities, to regain independence and a meaningful life and return successfully to living in the community.
You will ensure that rehabilitation strategies and techniques recommended by the team are implemented consistently.
You will be willing to work flexibly to meet people’s programmes over the 24 hour period including working weekends, nights and bank holidays.
A background or experience in a disability, social care or nursing setting would be an advantage, as would experience of working as part of a team.
Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is an understanding of the challenges faced by people with acquired brain injuries and a commitment to providing practical, physical and emotional support and care to meet individuals’ needs, while seeking to maximise their independence.
Flexible – you must be able to respond positively to the operational needs of the Hospital Home by accepting deployment on a variety of wards as and when required.
